Next CPE Batch in Baguio City

The next unit of CPE is planned to start in August in Baguio. One possibility is that we will have one or more group doing the

–26 week CPE-Extended, and/or
–12 week CPE-Standard Intensive

Both have the same requirements (including 400 hours of training and practical time). The extended version involves fewer hours per week but for a longer period. If you are interested, contact us at info@bukallife.org and also let us know if you are looking for extended or standard CPE.

Late April Updates

UPDATE: Based on our staff meeting today, our annual symposium is being moved to October (based on availability of main speaker, and our own schedule).

UPDATE: Also based on the same meeting, Planning to move forward with Clinical Pastoral Education in Cagayan de Oro (CPE in CDO). Details to follow.

Seminar April 14. “The Distinctive of Christian Counseling with Counselor Rudy French

Led by Counselor Rudy French. Explore the uniqueness of Christian Counseling as compared to other counseling disciplines. Explore case studies, engage in discussions, encounter experiential learning and guided imageries that will help you better understand, empathize, and care for those impacted by pain, grief, death, dying, and bereavement from a Christian perspective.

April 2012 Updates

Just a few updates.

1. Our Executive Director, Rev. Joel Aguirre is presently in Pittsburgh, PA attending the Annual Conference of the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP). He plans to return the first week in April.

2. The CPE Intensive has started again in Baguio. There are presently 17 trainees, including trainees from Philippines, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, and Haiti. We also have a number of trainees at our Manila Branch presently.

3. Planning to have our Pastoral Care Symposium is still being planned for the first week in May. This will be in Baguio, although it is possible to repeat it in Manila (we shall see).

4. Plan to have new CPE branches in June and August in Baguio. Will update regarding Manila schedule later.

Raymond J. Lawrence Jr. is the founding father and the General Secretary of the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy. He has been an Episcopal minister for almost half a century. Most of his career was spent training the next generation of ministers in the art and science of pastoral care and counseling. His most recent teaching position was as Director of Pastoral Care at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University, a position he held for fifteen years. Previously he held positions at St Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, Houston, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Houston, and New York Methodist Hospital. He has published widely in scholarly journals, and his opinion pieces on religion, ethics, and social values have appeared in most major newspapers in the U.S. His previous book, The Poisoning of Eros: Sexual Values in Conflict, was published in 1989, and was the winner of the 1990 Book Award at the World Congress on Sexuality in Caracas, Venezuela. In 2007 Praeger Press (Greenwood Publishing) published his Sexual Liberation: The Scandal of Christendom.

CPO groups in Baguio, Kalinga, Bulacan etc. are being scheduled.

Bi-Monthly Pastoral Care & Counseling Mini-Workshop—Last Saturdays of January, March, May, July, September and November.

Disaster Response Crisis Intervention training for teammembers and interested partners will be scheduled

Note: Bukal Life-certified CPE supervisors as well as individual centers (such as Manila and Bacolod) work with a certain amount of scheduling freedom. Therefore, schedules can vary considerably.

Disaster Response Trip to Cagayan de Oro

5 members of our team, led by our Executive Director, will be traveling to Cagayan de Oro, as part of a Bukal Life Care & Counseling Center mission. Our Bukal Life team is going down with the focus of training and empowering church leaders (clergy and layleaders) to effectively provide crisis care/counseling to their members and members of their community. Evangelical churches in CDO are joining together to form Kagay-an Evangelical Disaster Response Network. They are working with a broader team of NGOs and government groups. The team leaves Baguio (and Davao) on December 26 and returns on the 30th. Please pray.

CPE News– November 2011

Here is a bit of an update:

1. 2011 Batch 3B (Our first Manila group of CPE students) graduated on November 12 with 11 completing their requirements. Congratulations to all!!

2. Our first CPO group began this Monday with 16 trainees here in Baguio.

3. 2011 Batch 4A CPE begins this next Monday (November 21) with three groups here in Baguio led by Becky, Ryan, and Joyce. Best wishes for all.

4. 2012 Batch 1B CPE (Manila) is expected to start some time in January. Stay tuned.

5. 2012 Batch 2A and 2C will begin in March. 2A is our normal Baguio CPE Intensive. 2C will (prayerfully) be our first CPE training group in Bacolod City. Doc Sim hopes to start this at West Negros University.
