Persons with Disabilities and Family

Celia Munson, Training Coordinator and Pastoral Counselor with Bukal Life Care was invited to speak at “Area 1 Vocational Rehabilitation Center” (AVRC) for their Family Thanksgiving Celebration. The topic was on Unity/Solidarity of family and members with disabilities. The center presently has 57 trainees with sensory or physical disabilities. The center, operated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, trains people with disabilities in numerous areas including tailoring, hairdressing, massage, computer, food service, and more.

Approximately 100 attended this event. We have worked with AVRC before and it was an honor to be invited again. Celia spoke on issues of family dynamics as well as a number of group activities to show the importance of healthy family cohesion and flexibility.

“Summer” Updates

CPE 2013 AVSTM 1Two photos included here. One of them is a picture of the first batch of Summer Interns for CPE. This batch is relatively diverse with two Catholic, two Anglican, and two Evangelical ministers each. Heading the orientation is Celia Munson, CPSP-certified Supervisor-In-Training, serving with Bukal Life Care. A second batch of Summer Interns will begin in April.

The other photo also involves Celia. This one involves Basic First Aid training with Asia Vision-STM. Asia Vision-STM is a training and sending organization, based in Baguio City Philippines, for sending Filipinos (especially) into Southeast and Central Asia on short-term missions. Bukal Life Care has been partnering with AV-STM for some time now with training, materials, and evaluations. While it may seem strange that we would be leading a class on Basic First Aid, Bukal Life Care takes the term “Life Care” seriously. It is holistic– concerned with physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. As such, it is important for the STMers to be healthy, but also to be a help to others. We were also able to provide some supplies to them to help them in this work. Their blogsite is www.avstm.wordpress.com.

William & Viola Farrell Symposia, Oct 2012

This October we had our 2nd annual symposium on Pastoral Care & Counseling, led by Dr. Cesar Espineda. This year we decided to have several small seminars rather than one big seminar. Thus we had
-Central Philippines University, Iloilo.
-Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary, Baguio City
-University of the Cordilleras, Baguio City
-Central Methodist Church, Manila
The groups ranged from 30-60 attendants.Additionally, Doc Cesar was able to meet with various chapters of the CPSP-Philippines. He was vital in getting these chapters jump-started. Exciting things are happening, and we are looking forward to this new chapter in pastoral supervision and chaplaincy in the Philippines.
