  • August 28. “The Baggage Cart” Mini-Workshop. We will view and discuss the video “The Baggage Cart” by Claudia Black, focusing on self-understanding, and care for others. Participants are encouraged (but not required) to bring pastoral care cases with them for small group review. Venue: Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary. Time: 6:30pm to 9pm

We are Moving… a Few Meters at Least

Our ministry partner Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary is giving us a bigger space for our pastoral care center. The new space is right next door to our old one but about 5 times larger. The new space is about 500 square feet (over 45 square meters).

Our hope is to to get some major modifications to the space done. We want to partition off one area as a counseling room. One wall would be permanent and (hopefully) one wall would be a folding partition so that it can be opened up for large group trainings.

Two main doors here are both for the new office. Once we have things partitioned, the left door will be for the office, the right will be for the counseling room.

The other side would be our ministry office, as well as student ministry center to (as the name implies) help link up seminary students and ministry opportunities (both short-term and long-term).

The back area is storage/shelving, a kitchenette and lavatory (“CR”).

This is an awesome opportunity for us, and is part of the seminary’s goal to greatly expand and enhance its pastoral care training program. We are excited to be partnered in this.

June 2014 CPE Half Unit

June 2014 Mini-Workshop

Many have been asking about our next Mini-workshop. Our next planned one will be in June (probably 3rd week… exact date TBD). The topic will be “Counseling: Models of Interaction Between Psychology and Theology.” This will be a brief (2 – 2.5 hours) lecture and discussion groups on various models: “Levels of Explanation,” “Integrationist Camps,” “Christian Psychology,” “Biblical Counseling,” “Transformational Psychology” (and Spiritual Direction), “Historical Pastoral Care,” and “Modern Pastoral Care.” It will be held at Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary (Baguio City). Probably More details to follow.

Disaster Response: Phase #1

Basic Disaster Response Crisis Care training will be held at Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary on Wednesday Nov 13 and Thursday Nov 14, from 6pm – 8pm. The training will be led by Bukal Life Care. We are focusing on those who will be traveling to the Visayas for relief work in the next few days, but others are welcome to join.

Crisis Care with focus on Children will be held during the week of Nov 18, also at Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary. This training will also be led by Bukal Life Care. Exact times to be determined. Again, focus is on DR team preparing to leave, but others are welcome.

Please keep those in the typhoon destruction zone in your prayers. But also remember the relief workers who voluntarily place themselves in a difficult position. Two or three members of our team at Bukal Life Care are joining the trip… and more will most likely join subsequent trips.

Other News

A.  We will begin our monthly training mini-workshops in December.  These will be 1.5 to 2.5 hour evening workshops with focus on pastoral skills. These we anticipate will normally be held at Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary.

B.  Congratulations to Becky Taylor as she assumes the role of Office Manager for our ministry office at PBTS.

C.  Looking to have a refresher training in Disaster Response Crisis Care Training in the next few months.
